 Divoom iTour-20 speakers

We got to play with the new Divoom iTour-20 second generation speaker, and it let us down a bit.
Made for portability, it is small and, featuring the twist-ball design, it looks almost exactly like the Shox speakers available on the market.
When closed, the iTour-20, which is slightly bigger than a golf ball, bangs out an output of 2.8 watts. In its open form it is almost twice as loud. It boasts a 36mm (4Ohm) micro speaker that packs a sound punch for its size.
It deals rather well with classical music and classically trained voices, like Il Divo. Kate Bush's high pitched notes were crisp and clear at mid range volume. However, everything starts to go a bit pear-shaped when it’s at full volume. Music genres like big band, jazz or music with heavy bass are simply a mess at full volume, with reverberating noise.
The volume button on the side of the speaker has three settings; off, medium, and full volume. But there is very little difference in volume change between medium and full volume. In fact, it was almost undetectable to our ears.
The speaker’s rechargeable battery can be charged through a USB cable on your PC, and a full charge takes approximately 4 hours. If, however, you have a USB wall socket adaptor you’ll be able to charge the speaker in half that time. Unfortunately the AC adapter is not included in the box.
One feature we did like the sound of is the “link-link” capability, which allows you to link more of the iTour-20s together for higher sound output. Unfortunately, we could not test this as we only had the one to play with.
You can use the speakers with any device sporting a 3.5mm output jack. It also comes with three connections for Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson cellphones.
All in all, it is a nice device for casual listening at medium volume, but sound distortion at the high volume setting isn’t such a pleasant experience.
