Logitech Professional Presenter R800
Christo van Gemert
When you are doing lots of stand-up presentations to a room full of people, the old-school pull-out-car-areal-type stick or whatever it is called won't do anymore.
Things have gone digital and the Logitech’s R800 Professional Presenter is great for presentations. It has the requisite laser pointer – in this case, a lovely, bright-green dot – along with all the necessary buttons to control PowerPoint presentations. The buttons allow for starting a presentation or going full-screen, and skipping backwards or forwards between slides. There are also buttons to set up a presentation timer, along with a play/pause button for said countdown clock. The remaining time is displayed on the small LCD screen and is super-easy to read at a glance; it’s an excellent feature for making sure attendees aren’t bored to death.
Depending on how professional you want to look, close to a R1 000 can be a bit steep to control PowerPoint. Yes, it’s a tailor-made solution and the laser pointer is a lot better than the usual red ones, but the integrated timer is the only thing that sets this apart from a mouse and regular laser pointer.
It’s very cool. You’ll look like a pro waving this sleek little pointer around during your presentations. The wireless range is also fairly good, at around 20 metres (in the real world), allowing for relative freedom, or presenting from the head of the boardroom table. It's just a tad pricey at R899 for something with limited use.
