Cellphone maker Nokia is stepping up its consumer messaging service - Nokia Messaging – locally.
Nokia has signed a deal with network operator MTN to offer a Nokia E63 Messaging bundle costing about R119 per month on an MTN AnyTime 100 contract with a 10MB data plan.
The service is a push e-mail service allowing for up to ten personal e-mail accounts to be set up on a single device. According to Nokia, the messaging service supports all leading consumer e-mail solutions including Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo as well as M-Web, MTN Play and Webmail.
Customers will be able to send and receive e-mails as well as download e-mail attachments directly to their handsets, thus always keeping on top of business or private communication.
Serame Taukobong, chief marketing officer of MTN, says: "In today’s busy world, e-mail has become a standard means of business communication and is fast becoming an extension of our personal lives. Through our partnership with Nokia we believe we have brought cost-effective mobile e-mail through the Nokia Messaging service to our customers.”
Taukobong also believes that the Nokia E63 is an ideal device to bundle with the Nokia Messaging service.
