Acer XAcer's X factor
By Theo Boshoff
The guys at Acer yesterday officially launched their new Aspire TimelineX notebook range, which will be available in South Africa in June.

Acer's country manager Graham Braum says the X stands for more than just the excitement the arrival of these notebooks on local shores conjures up, but also the extreme functionality and excellent performance they offer.

For starters, the new Aspire TimelineX notebooks, of which there are three - the Aspire 3820T (13.3-inch screen), 4820T (14.1-inch screen) and 5820T (15.6-inch screen) - offer up to eight hours of battery life on a six-cell battery, allowing users a full day's work without the need of a power outlet, and as Braum notes, the ability to work for almost the entire time on a long-haul flight to Europe. In certain instances, depending on the configuration, the notebooks can offer up to 12 hours up time with a nine-cell battery.

Acer XThe notebooks feature Intel's new Core i3, i5, and i7 chipsets, allowing for super-fast processing and optimised multitasking capabilities. The integrated GMA HD/ATI Mobility graphics will ensure multimedia playback of the highest standards, as well as graphic-intensive business or leisure applications, such as games and image- rendering applications.

To add to the multimedia experience, the integrated Dolby Home Theatre will provide superior audio capability for movie or music playback.

Also striking is the sexy, slim and light form factor, weighing in at between 1.8kg and 2.5kg, and about 2.5cm thick.

The 3820T will retail for R7 999, the 4820T for R8 999 and the 5820T for R9 400.
