Better gaming with AMD
By Theo Boshoff
When it comes to gaming, there is almost nothing as important these days, apart from the storyline, of course, than the graphics.AMD is heeding the call for better graphics quality with the introduction of the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 graphics card.
The company is expanding DirectX 11 gaming with what it says is 12 times more resolution than 1080p HD, with the new card, enabling Panoramic computing across six displays.
It features 2GB of GDDR5 memory, and according to AMD, it is the first graphics card capable of rendering in excess of one billion pixels per second while playing the games being made today.
The card also features better display flexibility, right out of the box, with the inclusion of five adaptors: two mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapters, two passive mini DisplayPort to DVI dongles, and one passive mini DisplayPort to HDMI dongle.
It also supports 3x2 display configurations and the ability to use ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology in conjunction with ATI Eyefinity multi-display capabilities as released in ATI Catalyst graphics drivers version 10.2
The company further says that as a result of the ecosystem around ATI Eyefinity technology, which includes broad support by the game development community, users get extra benefits, such as continuous updates of ATI Catalyst graphics driver software as well as a partner program that assists them in identifying ATI Eyefinity-validated components to use in gaming set-ups.
