Cell C deals with Zain
By Theo Boshoff
Cell C has signed a roaming deal with one of Africa's largest telecoms providers, Zain, allowing easier integration of Cell C and the 'One Network' on the African continent.
According to Cell C's head of corporate communications, Karin Fourie, the 'One Network' partnership allows Zain One customers from 15 countries in Africa to roam on the Cell C network at preferential rates and with the ability to easily and quickly acquire and use local Cell C top-up vouchers when travelling in South Africa.
This is great for visitors from these African countries to SA, especially during the Soccer World Cup.
This deal, at present, does not work both ways, where Cell C customers travelling to one of the 15 African countries using the Zain One Network will get the same benefits, but, says Fourie, it is coming.
She says that Cell C is in the final stages of negotiating with Zain to afford the same deal for Cell C customers travelling into Africa with preferential rates and the ability to use Zain One Network top-up vouchers at more affordable rates.
"The closing of this deal with Zain is immanent and will help promote South Africans travelling to Africa without the worry of paying huge telephone costs to stay connected with people back home," she says.
The 15 Zain countries currently able to benefit from this service with Cell C in South Africa are: Burkina Faso, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Madagascar, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
Soon Cell C subscribers will be able to travel to these countries and explore without having to spend thousands of rands on their roaming costs. |
