HTC LEGENDHTC unveils three phones
By Theo Boshoff
Mobile phone maker HTC last week unveiled three new cellphones for the South African public, to be available from the beginning of May.

The three phones that were unveiled include the Legend, Desire and Smart phones, two of which are Android 2.1 phones.

The Legend and Desire are Android-based phones, while the Smart features a brand-new operating system – Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP).

All three of the phones also feature HTC’s enhanced Sense user interface offering more personalisation and easier access to applications, navigation through menus as well as connecting to friends through social networking services – improving interaction between the user and the device.

The Legend:
The Legend's body is cast from a single aluminium block and is rather sexy. It sports a 3.2-inch, AMOLED HVGA touch display, 5MP camera, and the traditional trackball has been replaced with an optical joystick, which works quite well.

The Desire:
The Desire features a 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA display and is powered by a one-gigahertz processor. The phone also sports an optical joystick, runs Android 2.1 and features 512MB ROM and 576MB RAM capability as well as a 5MP camera.

The Smart:
The Smart is a lower-level smartphone featuring a 2.8-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen and 3MP camera with fixed focus and flashlight as well as a 3.5mm stereo audio jack. It is 3G capable, but has no WiFi capability, so there is no option to connect to the net from a hotspot.
