Logitech has released yet another universal remote, called the Harmony 300i, which it says replaces four remotes and will make it easier for consumers to programme the remote to work with their home theatre devices.

According to research done by the company, it was found that more than a third of the 75 million European and US consumers had problems when they tried to programme a universal remote.

To make this process easier, Logitech has decided to release the Harmony 300i Remote, which is accompanied by a refreshed web-based setup to ease the pain of getting entertainment devices programmed and connected.

The new web-based application is exclusively designed for the new remote and is, according to the company, a breeze to set up.

Logitech Harmony 300iAll users have to do is connect the remote to their computer, go to www.myharmony.com, specify the entertainment devices they are using and Logitech will see to it that everything is automatically sorted and set up.

The company also notes that users of the Harmony 300i remote will never have to worry that it will be out of date, as all of the company’s remotes are powered by an online device library that covers more than 225 000 supported devices from more than 5 000 brands, and is growing daily.

So, whatever device you have, be it an archaic VCR or a brand-new Blu-ray player, the Harmony remote will be able to control it.

The remote itself has been designed and buttons configured to make operating it a breeze. The buttons are placed so that they are grouped together for various device functions. For instance, buttons controlling the DVD player are all grouped together.

According to the company, the Logitech Harmony 300i will be available locally in June this year, for a suggested retail price of about R350.
