The IT distribution company Drive Control Corporation (DCC) has extended a helping hand to Perfect Directions, a production company producing a wildlife conservation documentary in its support of nature and wildlife conservation.

DCC has donated a Western Digital storage system to Perfect Directions to assist in the making of a documentary project about conserving leopards.

The donation was in the form of a Western Digital 8 Terabyte (TB) ShareSpace storage system which DCC says will store the high-definition documentary footage while providing additional reliability and redundancy with the RAID (redundant array of independent disks) 5 functionality, which offers high-speed data transfers and thus smoothing out the documentary-making and editing process.

For Anton van Niekerk, a producer at Perfect Directions, the loss of any footage is devastating and the donation is, therefore, very welcome.

Van Niekerk also explains that one minute of high-definition video at a compression rate of 1:1 requires 1 Gigabyte of storage. "This is massive and as a result we realised we had to find a storage solution that will cope with this enormous amount of data. With this system, we can rest assured there is more than enough space to store our footage," he says.
