Just for WC tourists

Global telecommunications company TelFree will be offering a special service for visitors to South Africa, during June and July, for the Soccer World Cup – TelFree 2010.
The idea is to ensure visitors always have communication capability during a time when the networks will be under huge pressure with all the additional customers having to be accommodated.
According to the company, TelFree 2010 will provide smartphone customers with an affordable and convenient way to stay in touch with their loved ones, and on top of things at work while in SA.
It consists of the ‘TelFree Mobile’ and ‘TelFree Web’ internet applications for mobile smartphones, as well as computers, that offer a unified communication solution that brings offline and online communications, as the company says, into one seamless world.
There will be no subscriptions or contracts and it will offer great quality services that are extremely cost-effective, the company says.
Users will be able to talk to friends and family over the internet through their mobile phone or computer as well as utilise SMS, instant messaging (IM) and Chat services, including sending and receiving e-mails by making use of push technology.
It is also easy as pie to set up and use. All you have to do is download the application from the TelFree.com website, to your smartphone, connect to the internet using 3G or WiFi and you’re ready to get communicating.
TelFree says it provides a single global flat rate to fixed lines, mobile phones and is free between TelFree users, and eliminates the high costs pertaining to international roaming fees from mobile network providers.
Also beneficial is the accompanying 087 TelFree number eliminating the need for changing existing GSM cellphone numbers.
But possibly the best feature of all from the system is this: when users are not logged into their accounts, they will still receive calls, SMSes, chats and e-mails. The company says this is possible because the system “recognises what’s going on behind the scenes and notifies you to what’s happening in your TelFree world.”
The application footprint is also very small and doesn’t require massive amounts of internet bandwidth to be used, further saving users data costs.
The TelFree 2010 package will cost R350 and includes:
- Access to Telfree Mobile and Telfree Web
- 180 minutes of talk time – international and national
- 500 – Local SMSes
- 60 – International SMSes
- Free IM (ICQ, Yahoo, Google Talk, Skype, Facebook, AIM, MSN)
- Free push e-mail
