New Leica camera launched
By Theo Boshoff
Leica Camera, distributed in South Africa by Tudor, has launched a 12.1 megapixel digital compact camera, the Leica V-Lux 20 with 12x zoom and 3-inch 460 000 pixels display.
According to Leica Camera, the V-Lux 20 features a Leica DC - Vario-Elmar 4.1 - 49.2mm f/3.3-4.9 ASPH zoom lens, offering users focal lengths of between 25-300mm in 35mm format. This means owners will be able to shoot a wide variety of scenes, from close-ups to far-out zoom images like detailed landscapes, through the super-telephoto setting.
It features integrated image stabilisation, says the company, which is perfect for shooting photos in dark or low light situations, and eliminating photo-blur.
The camera also has a GPS tagging feature that allows users to sync the photo they have taken with the coordinates of where it was shot, as well as the local time of where the snap was taken. It is the first Leica camera to feature this function.
Added to this function is the option to view various sights, when travelling - offering 500 000 pics of sights or points of interest (POS) in 73 different countries.
The V-Lux 20 also features HD movie recording with face recognition and automatic scene selection, available in both movie and still photo mode.
The various automated functions to make photography easier for the novice are easily accessible through the selector dial on the top deck of the camera.
The Leica V-Lux 20 is now available from specialised Leica dealers at a recommended retail price of R5 350.
