LG releases first hybrid air-conditioner
By Theo Boshoff
There is no stopping the green technology train, and as such, LG has introduced its first eco-friendly solar hybrid air-conditioner for a cleaner and greener home.
The hybrid air-conditioner uses solar energy as part of its power supply, which, in the South African context, is perfect, seeing that the country is mostly bathed in sunshine throughout the year.
It’s a standing-style air-conditioner with the solar cell module attached to the outdoor unit, which can produce, according to the company, up to 70 watts of power per hour. This, the company adds, is enough energy to run the unit’s air purification process.
LG says that the unit not only offer consumers savings in electricity costs, but also ease of mind that the device is environmentally friendly. And if you are a carbon-counter, the company says you will be happy to know that the hybrid aircon helps reduce approximately 212kg of carbon dioxide over ten years - equivalent to growing 780 pine trees over the same period.
Liana Barnard at LG in South Africa told us the hybrid aircon is currently only available in Korea and will be available in South Africa at a later stage, depending on the demand.
