New Green Ambassadors announced
By Theo Boshoff
At a swanky affair at the Saxon hotel in Johannesburg recently, LG Electronics introduced their new line-up of Green Ambassadors in their “Life’s Good when it’s Green” campaign.
As before, with Mathew and Sonia Booth, the four new ambassadors joining them are also high-profile South Africans who will spread the word on what LG is doing to protect the environment.
These ambassadors are people that consumers look up to in their various fields of expertise, each supporting the cause of saving the earth by being more environmentally conscious.
The new LG Green Ambassadors are: Springbok Rugby captain John Smit, Protea Cricket all-rounder, JP Duminy, businesswoman and entrepreneur Basetsana Kumalo and South African fashion designer and trend analyst Dion Chang.

“The LG ‘Life’s Good when it’s Green’ campaign kicked off in 2010 with the appointment of Matthew and Sonia Booth as LG’s first Green Ambassadors. Its full worth and significance, however, will only now transpire as the announcement of our remaining four Green Ambassadors is set to truly entrench our message of green technology and environmental conservation,” explains Dr Michelle Potgieter, marketing director for LG South Africa.
The LG “Life’s Good when it’s Green” programme, says Potgieter, is aimed at instilling environmentally-sound practices across the entire product lifecycle of LG products, from the manufacturing of the product to what the product itself does to assist users in being more environmentally friendly.
To highlight just some of LG’s more environmentally friendly products, it is worth noting that the recently launched LG SL90 borderless LED LCD TV, according to the company, uses up to 76% less energy than a regular LCD television. The LG Steam Washer, it says, use up to 40% less water than conventional machines, thus being more water-wise and more energy efficient.
Potgieter says that LG is aiming to build a resource-recyclable society, through the use of LG products, to establish a cleaner, healthier and sustainable planet for all. |
