bipperMotorola cares for kids
By Theo Boshoff
Motorola has signed its first iSIM customer in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Bipper, to offer mobile child safety services.

Although the service is to launch in Scandinavia and Bulgaria initially, the hope is that, because of the service falling into the EMEA region, we could maybe see such services coming to local shores for consumers in the future. Bipper has indicated that it plans to roll it out to the rest of EMEA.

Bipper - a Scandinavian web-based company - focusses on providing services to keep children safe when using mobile phones and will now use Motorola’s iSIM platform to enable parental control services to parents wanting to keep tabs on their kids’ cellphone use.

Motorola cares for kidsThe Motorola iSIM solution, according to the company, can deliver applications, services and enhanced capabilities, including near field communications, due to a flexible wafer that is attached to the subscriber's original SIM card – allowing third party developers to build and deliver applications and services using the SIM toolkit through a mobile handset.

Bipper’s parental control service assists parents to manage their children’s approved number’s list from the Bipper website and allows them to monitor the child’s use of the cellphone. Parents can also set the settings on the phone to block calls from or to certain numbers or activate the phone to only operate during certain times. The service offers an alarm system as well as tracking through location-based services.

The Motorola iSIM platform can also assist in deploying other applications such as mobile commerce for banking, payment and alternative call routing to handsets for commercial use and has thus opened a new world for consumer services, if third party application developers rise to the occasion.
