Making photography easy
By Theo Boshoff
Olympus has released a new camera, which it says will take away the complications and intimidation factor usually associated with SLR cameras. Now, even your average Joe can take professional-looking photographs!
The Olympus PEN features a 12.3-megapixel Live MOS sensor, TruePic V image processor and a host of professional features in a lightweight and compact design that further allows users to use multiple lenses, which the company believes is as easy as one, two, three.
The ease of use is thanks to a new Live Guide, which was created to assist users in setting difficult SLR features. Additionally, the PEN also offers i-Auto (automatic scene selection), i-Enhance (colour enhancement), and e-Portrait functions, which can all be viewed and framed in real time on the 2.7” LCD and which the company says will ensure pictures look as if they were shot by a professional photographer.
For added creativity, the PEN also features six art filters, which include gentle sepia, usable in both film and still photography.
Other great features for HD movie fanatics, says the company, include the ability to change depth of field and angle of view, vary the autofocus and snap high-resolution images, all while in the process of shooting footage, along with the fact that users can change the lenses with various focal lengths.
The new PEN should retail for about R8 000 at leading photography stores and major retailers countrywide.
