Power up for free
Theo Boshoff
As many of you might know already, here at Digital Life, one of our biggest problems with mobile technology is rundown batteries.

We are prepared to pay for power or battery charges, as long as we can get it when we need it. Now a local company called Mobile Juice is taking a step in the right direction.

The company is set to roll out 50 mobile phone battery charge stations at specific spots across the country in May and June, with hopes of expanding to more locations in the future. And the best part is that the charges are free for consumers.

The set-up of these stations and the free charges will be covered through advertising space being sold on the unit and the incorporated LCD screen.

Due to still being in discussions with various other companies as partners, the company could not give us any details on exactly where these stations will be located, just saying it will be in "high traffic areas such as shopping centres, airports, etc".

According to Mobile Juice, what makes these charging stations different from others is the fact that users only charge their batteries at these stations and do not have to leave their entire phone there for the charging. We are not 100% sure how this will work, but we are told that batteries are deposited in a secure holder in the machine, that can only be accessed with a user pin code. The company also says that the stations are able to charge 95% of all cellular handset models, including devices used abroad.

It will also be easy to use, as there will be step-by-step voice prompts to guide the users through the entire process, which will see consumers have their batteries fully charged in 20 minutes - for free.

The only thing you will have to remember is to not go off to wherever you are off to, without reclaiming your battery.
