Kaspersky Labs Pure Beyond Security
By Theo Boshoff
Protecting your digital lifestyle has just become easier with Russian security company Kaspersky Labs launching its Pure digital security solution for consumers in South Africa.
At the launch event in Johannesburg, Kaspersky’s head of regional retail sales, Vasily Dyagilev, made it clear that the company developed the Pure product because consumers need more protection for their electronic data as well as require assistance in better managing their entire digital lifestyle, as the world becomes more digitally advanced.

“It is not just about security threats anymore, but about something we call digital pollution,” Dyagilev says.
Digital pollution, according to Dyagilev, incorporates more than just security threats consumers have to deal with today, such as computer viruses, malware and identity theft, through phishing attacks. Digital pollution also includes things like spam and the increasing amount of useless data that clutter users’ computers and affects the processing power of their PCs, as well as general maintenance of their personal systems.

The Pure product is a premium integrated home network solution designed to go beyond simple security, says Dyagilev. “It provides complete protection against all types of web-borne threats and features integrated parental control, backup and encryption functions. It also includes easy-to-use password management and computer and network tune-up utilities, with the added benefit of offering a single centralised management console for the head of the family to manage and protect all PCs on a home network.”

The Pure solution thus gives the head of the family the ability to act much the same as a business’ IT department, but for a family household.

Kaspersky Pure further eases logging into your network, while making it more secure and with the tune-up facilities, further protects your system and data by automatically switching on all the security features of a browser when launched. “It analyses settings that are either hidden or generally overlooked, notifying the user to take action if any of them pose a threat,” Dyagilev adds.

The solution comes in three one-year licence packages for either one, three or five users, costing R599, R699 and R799 respectively. It will be available from general IT retailers and online from June.
