Security for the future
By Theo Boshoff
Security vendor Kaspersky Labs recently released its 2011 products, the Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) 2011 and Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV) 2011 software packages.
The new software has been upgraded to include more proactive security features, rather than kicking in only after a user’s PC is infected or compromised. According to the head of regional retail sales at Kaspersky, Vasily Dyagilev, the new product updates feature real-time proactive protection, which constantly monitor a user’s system to detect potential threats before they become a problem.
The two new versions incorporate System Watcher technology, which runs in the background, and monitors all system events, like the creation and modification of files, system calls and changes to the system registry for any malicious activity. If detected, the programmes can be stopped and returned to its previous status in mere minutes.
With the help of Kaspersky’s extensive threats database, suspicious objects are scanned in real-time, eliminating the need to scan it locally through your PC, and updates are regularly available.
Also new is the incorporation of the new Windows Gadget feature, allowing for quick access to the Kaspersky security features such as scanning files with a single mouse click as well as the ability to run a suspicious application in ‘Safe’ mode.
The installation disk can, furthermore, be used as a rescue disk, if something goes wrong, eliminating the need to create a separate boot disk. It’s also worthy to note that the software can be installed on PCs that are already infected with malicious programmes, which usually blocks the installation of such security products.
The products also include updated Parental Control, Safe Surf, as well as redesigned Safe Run features, which Kaspersky believes will ensure users more protection against viruses and malicious attacks and keep their data safe.
