Three New NokiasThree New Nokias

The competition is hotting up in the low-end smartphone market with Nokia having released three new phones yesterday, a day after Microsoft and Sharp launched the Kino One and Two.

The focus of the competition seems to be on the instant messaging features of the phones, as the likes of Twitter, Gtalk and the IM user-base grows at a rapid pace. If it continues like this, voice calls might soon seem foreign to everyone.

Anyone launching these phones is clearly chasing RIM, the makers of BlackBerry phones, as it is seen as the leader in the mobile e-mail market.

The three new phones unveiled by Nokia include the C3, C6 and E5 models. These phones all sport a Qwerty keyboard and are reasonably priced - between €90 and €220.

Now the lower-end of the market also has access to the full Qwerty keyboards, e-mail and access to instant messaging, which was previously only available to the high-end market.

The C6, according to Nokia, will be a S60 fifth edition device with a 3.2-inch HD touchscreen display and a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and 5MP camera.

The C3 is a series 40 device that has a 2.4-inch screen and sports a full Qwerty keyboard. It comes with Ovi Chat and conversational SMS chat and a 2MP camera.

The E5 will be a S60 third edition device, with a 2.4-inch touchscreen, 5MP camera and WiFi.

Both the E5 and C6 handsets will also have Ovi Maps installed, with free walk and drive voice navigation.
