Adobe gives magazines a digital facelift
By Theo Boshoff
The faces of magazines are changing with Adobe's new digital viewer and publishing technology. With the world moving towards a more online environment, the Adobe software will enable print publications to bring digital versions of their magazines to life, with added features that only an online environment can offer.
The software allows the reader to experience a host of added interactive features, such as linking to and viewing video content, slideshows and even 360-degree images that can be tilted any which way. With the touch interface integration, readers will also be able to zoom in and out of pages.
Advertisements will come alive through this software, and readers will be able to interact with the ads and brands being advertised.
Condé Nast’s WIRED magazine assisted Adobe in creating the new software. The magazine was also the first to be published with this new viewing software and debuted on the new Apple iPad.
According to David Burkett, vice president and general manager, Creative Solutions at Adobe, the company aims to make the digital viewer software available to all publishers soon. The company will also develop versions of the software for multiple hardware platforms.
The WIRED Reader can be downloaded from Apple iTunes App Store and costs $4.99.
Here is a taste of what you can expect the future of magazines to be like.
