Cheaper TV
By Theo Boshoff
MultiChoice, the satellite TV people, has introduced a more affordable PVR decoder, which it says is also capable of delivering High Definition (HD) programmes, to allow more consumers access to satellite TV – especially before the Soccer World Cup.
The new decoder is called the HD PVR 2P and retails for R1 999 at leading retailers and furniture stores.
Apart from the ability to view HD content, the company says the decoder can also be used with a normal standard definition television set, enabling subscribers to enjoy PVR functions, such as watching one channel while recording another simultaneously or pausing, rewinding and forwarding live programs.
If you are a keen soccer fan who wants to watch the sport in HD format, it is important to note that SuperSport will broadcast Fifa World Cup matches in HD on two dedicated channels.
The HD PVR 2P can store 150 hours of standard definition programming or 50 hours of HD programming and can be linked to any of MultiChoice’s latest decoders to provide a multi-viewing environment.
The record functionality and DStv On Demand services are not currently available with the decoder, but the company says these will automatically be downloaded to the decoder later in the year.
