Check your usage
Theo Boshoff
As the green revolution to counter global warming is taking the world by storm and with the threat of spiralling electricity costs in South Africa, keeping our electricity usage down has become a priority.

With this in mind, Radiant Lighting and Electrical has unveiled a handy little gizmo to help consumers keep tabs on how much electricity they are using and how much it’s costing them. This should encourage users to switch off those lights and other energy-draining equipment to conserve a little power.

The gadget is a wireless electricity monitor and is called the Owl.
In a nutshell, the Owl measures the electrical current in your home and then calculates the amount of power being consumed and the costs involved. Radiant believes that if you’re able to see your daily consumption, you’ll become more aware of how much you’re wasting, prompting you to save. By simply changing your electricity usage habits, like turning the light off as you leave a room, and lowering your geyser’s thermostat, you can save almost 25% on your electricity bill.

We will do a full review of the Owl in the next issue of Digital Life magazine, so if you want to learn more about this product, you’ll have to either subscribe to the magazine or go buy it as soon as it hits the shelves.
