SitecomNew gaming router released
By Theo Boshoff
Sitecom has released a new wireless gaming router, the WL-309, which, it says, has been specially developed for gamers and hardcore Internet users.

The wireless 802.11n router, according to the company, features advanced StreamEngine and Concurrent Dual-band technology, to allow for uninterrupted Internet performance, which will subsequently enhance users’ gaming, streaming audio, video and VoIP calls experiences.

Sitecom says that the 2nd generation gaming router’s simultaneous dual-band technology means wireless signals can be simultaneously transmitted via the standard 2.4GHz band and the less congested 5GHz band, providing uninterrupted performance.

The StreamEngine technology automatically gives priority to time-sensitive traffic within the network, such as gaming, to make optimal performance without audio or video interference possible.

The WL-309 also features a USB port to connect external devices, such as a hard disk or a flash drive.

The new router also has an integrated five-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 switch for cabled speeds of up to 1 000 Mbps for those gamers who like a cabled gaming network environment.

The WAN port is a Gigabit port that supports connections with speeds greater than 400 Mbps and features two internal and two external dual-band antennas, reducing wireless dead spots, guaranteeing reception throughout the house.

The router also features pre-configured application layer gateways and advanced scheduled access control, allowing users quick access to favourite online games as well as more security on controlling which PCs on the network will be able to access the internet at which times and for how long, as well as blocking access to certain sites.

According to Sitecom, the router can process up to 30 000 open connections simultaneously, so that streams or downloads are performed seamlessly for a number of users on the network.

It, furthermore, features the latest WPA2 security standard and thanks to the one-push setup (OPS) button, users are able to create a wireless network in seconds and without having to install complicated software.
