Intel expands core
By Theo Boshoff
Thinner and sleeker laptops and mobile device designs and form factors will now be seeing the light as a result of Intel's recent introduction of new Core processors.
With the new range of processors based on the company's 32 nanometer (nm) technology, more stylish and ultra-thin devices that are less than 2.5cm thick and weighing in at less than 1kg can be manufactured.
According to Intel, the processors are more than 32% smaller, deliver more than 32% better performance and are more power-efficient, with reduced power consumption of over 15%. This means longer battery life.
The processors also feature a multitude of new technologies such as Intel Turbo Boost Technology, which intelligently provides an immediate boost when needed for certain software and Intel HD integrated high-definition graphics, to deliver crystal-clear visuals, vibrant colours and smooth high-definition (HD) video and audio playback.
Intel expects more than 40 designs of new hardware, as a result of the new chipsets, from computer manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Lenovo and MSI.
