Samsung officially launched its full HD LED 3D TVs in South Africa, along with other home entertainment solutions, at an extravagant event that included an interactive hologram projection with the MC basically talking to himself, on Constitution Hill, in Johannesburg.
The company showed off what it says is the first full HD 3D TVs to be launched in the world, as well as its 3D Blu-ray player and home theatre system.
Donning the 3D glasses and watching DreamWorks' Monster vs. Aliens Blu-ray DVD was quite an experience. It really draws the viewer right into the action and entertainment of the movie. This was true for watching on both the Plasma and LED TVs. Also impressive was the fact that viewers aren't required to sit straight in front of the TV to get the full 3D effect.
The colours are brilliant and images are full of life.
The core of Samsung's full HD LED 3D TV and 3D Blu-ray offerings is routed in its own 3D Real240Hz processor and emitter, featured in the devices, which the company says is optimised for a full immersive viewing experience for home users.
The images in full HD, without 3D content, are just as impressive, with great contrast and depth.
The products that were unveiled include LED 7000/8000/9000 Series TVs, the LCD 750 Series as well as the Plasma 7000/8000 Series TVs, which will be made available in a phased roll-out, starting with the 3D-capable, 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch LED C7000, this month.
The LED TVs also incorporate internet TV and access to an HDTV application store, giving viewers access to more than just TV.
The 3D TVs will ship with two 3D glasses. Families with more members need not worry, as the 3D glasses will also be sold separately.
Samsung said that that it is working together with DreamWorks to bring more 3D movie titles to consumers. The Monsters vs. Aliens 3D movie is included with the purchase of any of the new 2010 HD 3D products. The animated Shrek movie series will be available soon, and approximately 200 titles will be released before the end of the year.
