MWeb opens second storeMWeb opens second store
By Theo Boshoff
Internet service provider (ISP) Mweb opened its second retail concept store at the Canal Walk shopping centre in Cape Town on 2 August, with the aim of assisting consumers in finding out everything they need regarding the internet and connecting to it.

The company believes that these retail concept stores are of value to consumers as it gives them easy access to expert knowledge provided by trained personnel, and experience hands-on demonstrations, in a setting that consumers are familiar with.

Carolyn Holgate, GM of MWEB Connect, says: “In its simplest form, we’re making the internet ‘real’ for customers and giving them an opportunity to interact with the MWeb brand. Some customers may feel overwhelmed when faced with the myriad internet and technology options available to them, and the MWeb stores give customers an opportunity to ask for advice and try out different offerings before making a purchasing decision.”

Big-brand retail stores like these have increasingly become popular, because of the hands-on experiences people get on products they do not know much about, especially within the very complicated technology world.
Holgate also says that these stores show customers how they can get the best out of their internet experience.

MWeb Canal Walk storeThe Canal Walk store also features an internet café with a 47-inch touchscreen monitor where customers can explore what the internet can offer them, such as watching YouTube videos or experiencing Google Earth. Advice, internet connectivity packages as well as hardware products are on offer at these stores.

There is already such a store at Cresta shopping centre in Johannesburg and more are planned, with one in Centurion scheduled to open later this year.
