MWeb delivers

Let us all rejoice and sing a song of praise to MWeb. Why? The company has just unveiled the cheapest uncapped ADSL Internet offering for South Africans starting from only R219 a month. Yippeeee!!!
The high cost of bandwidth SA has made it rather difficult for us to play on the Net like the rest of the world, where cheap uncapped broadband Internet has been a standard for a long time, and the envy of all South African Internet users.
The new offerings form MWeb are, according to the company, 40 percent cheaper than offerings currently being sold by other internet service providers (ISPs).
As a result of these more affordable services, we can but only hope that other ISPs will start dropping their prices allowing more South Africans to benefit.
Not only will this reduction in price be good in terms of increasing Internet adoption and usage, it will also be great for uplifting the country's economy. In other countries, it has been proven time-and-time again that increased Internet usage from affordable pricing and lack of bandwidth constraints leads to economies that start to grow and flourish.
MWeb CEO, Rudi Jansen, says it well: “This offer will enable South Africans to access and download content on a scale never seen before. We have a real chance to lift ourselves from broadband mediocrity, or we risk falling into broadband oblivion.”
So what can consumers expect? There are six offerings altogether, three which are data-only and three that are all inclusive (with ADSL line rental included).
The data-only packages are:
- R219 for 384Kbps per month
- R299 for 512Kbps per month
- R539 for 4Mbps per month
These services are available on any line rental package available from Telkom, even Telkom’s “Closer” subscription bundles.
The all inclusive packages (with ADSL line rental included) are:
- R349 for 384Kbps per month
- R599 for 512Kbps per month
- R899 for 4Mbps per month
For those consumers who still want to subscribe to a capped service, these will still be available with the same cost savings carried over. For example the 1GB capped offering will now cost only R69, the 2GB capped package will be upgraded to a 3GB cap at R145 and the 1GB All-inclusive 384Kbps will be migrated to 2GB at R199.
Thanks MWeb!
