Pay less

Could it be? Is this real? It seems that finally something is happening within the mobile operator space to make consumers think that their mobile operator might actually care about them.

On 7 March 2010, Vodacom dropped their rates for prepaid customers, to what it says is the lowest in South Africa.

According to the company, its prepaid customers will now be able to make calls through per second billing of just 2.8 cents per second throughout the day. For those thinking in minutes, that’s R1.70 per minute.

Yes, there are now more peak and off-peak rates for Vodacom customers on the prepaid All Day tariff plan, and Vodacom SA MD Shameel Joosub says: "Customers don’t have to wait for off-peak times to make that important call anymore."

Vodacom prepaid customers on another tariff plan need not get angry either, as they too will be able to migrate to the new All Day tariff plan without hassle, because the company is making it easy for all its other prepaid customers to migrate to this new plan with something called 'FreeChange'.

And it’s easy and free to make the change. Customers simply have to call 1181 (free from a Vodacom cellphone) or dial *111# selecting the FreeChange option and following the prompts to complete the process.

Customers can, however, only change for free once every 30 days.
