Samsung catches a Wave
Theo Boshoff
Not too long ago, we spoke about USB 3.0. Now, we’re talking Bluetooth 3.0, as Samsung has unveiled its Bada operating system on the brand-new Wave cellphone, which features, yes, you guessed it, Bluetooth 3.0 for faster data transmissions.
The Wave phone also sports 802.11n Wi-Fi and a nice and big 3.5-in OLED screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. In keeping with the trends, the screen is also touch-enabled and the user interface is an upgrade of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface.
The company kept mum on what chip the phone features, but it did say it clocked up to 1GHz. Speculation is that it probably runs the Qualcom Snapdragon chipset, which we also spoke about not too long ago.
Apart from the Bada operating system the big thing about the Wave is its screen, which includes technology already featured in the company’s prized television sets, called the mobile Digital Natural Image engine (mDNIe) with video playback of up to 720p resolution and support for 5.1 surround sound.
Just like Nokia’s music store and Apple’s app store, Samsung might also be opening its own online store in the near future. |
