Spoilt for choice
By Theo Boshoff
Couch potatoes might know this already, but for the rest of you, MultiChoice has launched three new channels to its various DStv bouquets.
The channels are KidsCo, AfroMusic and Mzansi Magic, which the company says should appeal to a wide variety of audiences.
The Mzanzi Magic channel, as its name suggests, also brings more local content to the small screen and is geared towards the creative types in South Africa offering proudly South African entertainment.
The Mzanzi Magic channel is available to DStv Select 1, Compact and Premium subscribers and, says the company, features local and international films, music specials, documentaries and soapies, as well as talk shows. MultiChoice also notes that this channel will give viewers access to South African low-budget films (bubblegum cinema) such as films that were previously only available on DVD.
The KidsCo channel, according to the company, is a brand-new international television channel, focussed primarily on children and available to DSTV Lite, Select 1, Selet2, Compact and Premium subscribers.
Music lovers will enjoy the 24/7 AfroMusic channel, broadcasting African music, music documentaries, concerts and a host of other music-related content with an African flavour. This channel will be available to DStv Compact and Premium subscribers.

As the broadcasting war heats up and online TV starts to take shape, broadcasters are upping their game to provide more content to keep viewers tuned to their stations. This is a good thing, because now viewers will have more choice to keep them entertained on otherwise dull days.
