Digital switch off...and on

Well, I have been basically cut off from all things digital for a few weeks while I got my new (plastic!) shoulders sorted out. Not a lot of fun being dependent on others for all things...and I mean ALL things... You leave your dignity at the entrance door, and only pick it up again as you leave.
But I was not completely cut off from all things digital, actually. The surgeries were keyhole surgeries, so digital cameras were inserted intoeach shoulder, so they could see what they were doing (other holes let in water to inflate the joint...and I could here the water sloshing about for a couple of days afterwards, also arms with rasps and grinders, another with a plastic cap which was unwrapped onto the top of my humerus bone. Yet another with a needle and thread to attach the same). 5 holes in each shoulder.
There was also a brain monitor that records the blood pressure in the brain. The ops are performed in a seated position (they call it a beach chair, but I saw no sign of the beach!!). I am a naturally inquisitive person so they kept me awake for a while to show me each of the tools, and monitors. Quite amazing really! They even record the ops onto DVD - I haven't got my copy yet! I happened to be the first person who had both shoulders done at once...so they were quite interested in tracking my progress. They also were extremely careful, as my shoulders triple up as my knees and hips too...
So back to (almost) normal... I can use my computer, and begin to work through the hundreds of unread messages in my inbox... It is very odd to be disconnected for so long. I did manage to get a nurse to turn on my computer, and get online occaisionally, but it is rather frustrating to have to explain to another person the different processes involved... Even hooking the computer to the phone ended up being quite a difficult procedure...something that I have taken for granted for so long. Now just need to try to get rid of all the strange drugs that have been pumped and drained into me...the drip finally came out (of my foot!) yesterday...so slowly coming back to the surface again. Just seem to be trying to set new world records in sleeping...
Anyway, hope all MyDLers are well; is OS a Daddy yet? How is Nita coping with her latest edition? Is Red still saiding, Mike still Zilling? Yadda yadda... |
