Wave Goodbye Wave
Posted by: EgbertFly on Aug 05, 2010
Google has finally given Wave its final wave.
No more work is going to be done on the product. The product was released last year to standing applause, but it has not received the same user adoption as its Google internal response.
Various sources within Google claim that the product was an ambitious one that created new levels of possibility.
Making it possible to drag files in and out of a browser seemed to be quite a feat. Providing real-time collaboration updates also seems like quite a feat. I imagined that people working on a project would make use of the concept, but beyond that I could not see any reason for Wave’s existence.
Google has made it possible to free up any data that has been stored in wave to be move to other Google applications.
I suppose the fact that Google is big enough to admit that their application was not as successful as they hoped is not a bad thing.
The good news is that Google has recognised that the product is a failure and has pulled support for it before it gets out of hand.
