Skype leaves Mobile users high and dry
Posted by: EgbertFly on Mar 01, 2010
What is Skype?
Skype is an application that makes it possible to call people locally and internationally for little or no cost. The application uses VoIP to enable text, voice and video communication. Quite simply put, this is a huge thing, unless you use Windows Mobile that is.
Skype has stopped development of their client for Windows Mobile. Most of the files relating to the client have been removed from Skype’s website.
According to Skype, it is a quality issue. Skype wants to have the best quality possible, something that Windows Mobile does not live up to. Symbian based phones and iPhone seem to be up to standard.
A client for Windows Mobile 7 is in the pipeline according to the rumour mill, but that remains to be seen.
If you have an existing installation of Skype on you Windows Mobile phone, then you are in luck because your installation will work just fine, but if you want to become a new customer, sorry for you, no such luck.
Skype have not released any news if there is a version in development. Be wary, be very wary.
