The 2010 Soccer World Cup is unlocking as lot of creativity and innovation with quite a few people and organisations getting in on the action. Yet another such institution is the Catholic church, which has created a website for church-going soccer fans from across the globe.
The site is offering all Catholics planning to visit South Africa during the World Cup a place to get information regarding the soccer event itself, as well as news about various initiatives the church is involved with in South Africa, such as HIV/AIDS, to name just one.
The website also offers information regarding the various parishes situated close to the stadiums where matches will be played, along with contact details. Apart from supplying dates and times of matches, there are also directions to stadiums where matches will be played.
Furthermore, there are links to events offered by the church as well as the most important spiritual sites the church feels should not be missed. Further initiatives the church wants people to take note of are also featured on the site, which include the issue of human trafficking.
There is also a ‘Fun Stuff’ page which features some video clips and commentary. Currently, there’s a photo where local bishops’ heads have been put on the bodies of the French team members. Looks like the Catholic church has a sense of humour after all.
The site is currently not very populated, except for the news and Feature article sections, but we are sure that as the time for the kick-off draws closer, more content will appear.
Go visit the site at www.churchontheball.com and add your comments, as it offers visitors the ability to add their two cents worth.
